Producer's
Corner..
AUDIO
FILE FORMATS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS
I know, I know - for
this month's Producer's Corner I promised to discuss mic preamps.
I'm going to defer that discussion to next month in favour of
providing some details on audio file formats and their impact
on sound quality. This is particularly relevant since I am celebrating
the launch of the UK site by sponsoring Rick with some production
time as a prize, and the audio files that people may send can
have a huge impact on the overall quality of the production....More

Equipping
Your Home Voiceover Studio
By Peter Drew To
make a living, voice over talents used to have to physically go
to gigs recorded in commercial production facilities. Now, gigs
can come to them-in home studios and through the Internet. But for
many voice over talents, newbie and old pro alike, outfitting a
home studio is technically baffling. So, how do you make that spare
bedroom or corner of your studio apartment (no pun intended) into
a functional voice over facility, with decent acoustics and the
appropriate equipment? Let's take a look at the basics involved
in setting up a home voiceover studio.

Vanilla
anyone?
Everybody doesn’t like Vanilla
So producers and clients have visited your web pages, listened
to your demos and you have heard nothing from them. Why did they
not contact you for a custom demo and/or a quote on their project?
Was it because you are not good? Was it because they were just curious?
Or, was it because you were the wrong flavour? Yes! There was nothing
wrong with your demos at all, you sound great and most important
they will remember that. They will save you in their favourites
or pass along your URL to other colleagues, which is more promotion,
and when they need your flavour they will contact you, or someone
will.
Maybe they were just collecting all the chocolate flavours they
could to pass along to their production department. Maybe tomorrow
they will want you, vanilla. The point is don’t give up. No
matter how good you are you will not get all the recording projects
out there. That is one great aspect of our CV members, we all know
we aren’t available in all flavours.
Check this out, this was found in a Newsgroup alt.tv.voice-artists.
Be forewarned it is graphical but you will be truly amazed by this
inspirational story. VO

Web
site Tips
Making Narrated Presentations available on the Internet Using
Flash It has become a fairly common practice for corporations
to use narrated PowerPoint presentations for sales, training and
many other functions. One of the most difficult problems is getting
those presentations out to the audience without requiring them to
have specific version of Microsoft Office and audio-playback software.
To get an idea of what I mean, take a look at the following sample
slide used as part of an online course: http://www.crystalbaymedia.com/sampleslide.html
This slide was created using the built in animation and sound playback
tools of PowerPoint 2003 and then converted to Flash using a product
called PowerConverter.
For more information on PowerPoint’s animation features please
refer to PowerPoint’s online help topics “Adding Sound,
Music, Video and Voice”, “Animating Text and Objects”,
“Setting Timing and Transitions”.
The basic steps to creating a narrated presentation for the web
are:
1. Create your presentation as normal using PowerPoint
2. Add animations and voice using PowerPoint’s animation and
sound functions
3. Convert the PowerPoint file using a converter product like PowerConverter
or Impatica.
More information and a free trial of PowerConverter can be found
at: http://www.presentationpro.com/products/PowerCONVERTER.asp
