CV
Workshop in Ottawa with H2...by
Rick Gordon
It's been in
the planning stage for quite a while and now our very first CV
Workshop and Seminar is scheduled for the weekend of May
6th at Raven
Street Studios with my friend Harlan
Hogan and others TBA.
This 3 day workshop, the first ever in Ottawa, is designed to introduce
the VO business to those considering making it a career. We will
help participants decide for themselves whether to indulge or not,
while learning the "must have's" in order to succeed.
Much more information will be published next month but in the meantime
you are invited to listen to an "off the cuff" chat with
Harlan Hogan and Rick Gordon about
Workshops, Harlan's new DVD, newbies and a clever scam here.
On another note make
sure you check out our Producer's Corner. Bruce
has some great new info on stats and a very comprehensive approach
to understanding the numbers. He knows his stuff!
Just a little perk for
CV members that you won't get anywhere else.

Meet
the Clients
A few years back
our company made a movie, for fun, to show at our local Greenville
Ad Club ADDY Awards dinner. It has since been shown several more
times at other ADDY events in cities around the Southeast. I thought
readers of this newsletter would get a kick out of it.
It's called "Meet the Clients" and it's a parody of the
movie "Meet the Parents". This movie was written, shot
and edited by our staff at Williamson Evans Words, Music & Moving
Pictures.
I hope you enjoy it.

STUDIO ... DETERMINE YOUR NEEDS.....by
Edge Studio
Many voice talent don't realize the importance of planning
when it comes to their home-studio. Subsequently, they either
spend more money and time than necessary, and/or find themselves
unable to please their clients.
This article aims at eliminating these misfortunes.

Are
Independent Voiceover Artists Reaping All the Benefits of Technology?.
by Doc Phillips
It's already difficult enough just to learn the business of the voiceover
industry, let alone attempting to keep up with the ever-evolving technological
aspects. But, I assure you, it's a must for those of us making a living
with our voices. Hardware is in a perpetual state of flux
with companies competing with each other. While these companies
certainly have their board of directors firmly embedded in their
creative process, some are or already have developed some of the
neatest new tools ever. What I mean by this is that, of course,
bottom line and profits are the impetus of the suits involved. But,
the creative types truly want to assist the voiceover artist or
producer in providing the latest, greatest technology in an effort
to make our jobs easier and more convenient.

Web
site Tips
What is RSS?
RSS or Really Simple Syndication is web feed format, specified in
XML and used for Web syndication. RSS is used by (among other things)
news websites, weblogs and podcasting.
Web feeds are widely used by the weblog community to share the latest
entries' headlines or their full text, and even attached multimedia
files. Since mid-2000, use of RSS has spread to many of the major
news organizations, including Reuters, CNN, PR Newswire, and the BBC.
These providers allow other websites to incorporate their "syndicated"
headline or headline-and-short-summary feeds under various usage agreements.
RSS is now used for many purposes, including marketing, bug-reports,
or any other activity involving periodic updates or publications.
Many corporations are turning to RSS for delivery of their news, replacing
email and fax distribution.
A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check a list of
feeds on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that it
finds. It is common to find web feeds on major websites and many smaller
ones. Some websites let people choose between RSS or Atom formatted
web feeds; others offer only RSS or only Atom.
