VO
Hosting ...by
Rick Gordon
I read an article
on Yahoo Groups VO recently where the VO talents were complaining
that so many hosting companies just take your money, put up a small
demo and let you flail in the business. The criticism was that there
is no personal attention given. They take the money and run and
then they try to sell you some sort of upgrade or just wait for
your renewal time to come around so they can scoop up more money.

Pro-Shield Studio Pop Filter Review By Jeffrey P. Fisher
There's nothing sexy about pop filters, but that doesn't
mean they don't contribute to the sound of your recordings. If you
can effectively eliminate popped Ps, Bs, Ts, Ks, and TCHs from your
voice-over and sung vocal recordings, you save yourself many headaches
in post....More

Going
Global with Your Voiceovers Business
by
Peter Drew
Working out of a personal studio located anywhere there is an Internet
connection, it’s possible for a voiceover talent to work with
producers in the farthest reaches of the planet. Marketing you voice-over
services to the world is similar to marketing to your own region,
but there are a few differences to keep in mind.
Hey, world. I’m
here!....More

Web
site Tips
What
will happen to the MP3? For
those of you that keep up with the ever changing file formats, you
may have noticed an increase in non-MP3 audio files on the web.
This is due in large part to high-profile sites/companies backing
alternate technologies. For example, Apple’s iTunes uses a
format called AAC, and Microsoft promotes the use of WMA.
Both AAC and WMA provide
a higher quality audio than an MP3 of the same size. AAC and WMA
also support more complex audio formats such as Dolby 5.1 and 6.1.
The most common implementation of the MP3 supports only basic 2-channel
stereo.
The future of the MP3
seems to hinge on a new enhanced MP3 format known as “MP3
Surround”. While currently available; it is not yet widely
supported.
If the new “MP3
Surround” format does not start to gain a wider supported
base, we may be witnessing the end of the MP3.
For those that like the
details, very complete descriptions of the formats can be found
on WikiPedia.
