Make
Your Telemarketer's Day...by
Dyana Daniels
The phone rang
as I was sitting down to my evening meal. When I answered it, I
was greeted with "Is this James Silhavy?" Not sounding
anything like my name, I asked who is calling. The telemarketer
said he was with The Rubber Band Powered Freezer Company or something
like that. Then I asked him if he knew James personally and why
was he calling this number.
I said off to the side
(holding the phone slightly away), "Get some pictures of the
body at various angles and the blood smears". I then turned
back to the phone and advised the caller that he had entered a murder
scene and must stay on the line because we had already traced this
call and he would be receiving a summons to testify in this murder
case.
I questioned the caller
at great length as to his name, address, phone number at home, at
work, who he worked for, how he knew the dead guy and could he prove
where he had been about one hour before he made this call.
The telemarketer was
getting very concerned and his answers were in a shaky voice. I
then told him we had located his position and the police were entering
the building to take him into custody. At that point I heard the
phone fall and the scurrying footsteps of him running away.
My wife asked me as I
returned to our table why I had tears streaming down my face and
so help me, I couldn't tell her for about fifteen minutes. My meal
was cold, but it was the best meal in a long, long time.

Lot to Like About the Little Guy..................By Jeff Hoyt
“So, what
have you voiced that I would recognize?”
People ask me that all the time. It’s the first go-to question
asked of any voiceover actor. And there’s a natural tendency

Production Facility -
Buyer Beware!
The internet
is a great resource for both business and information, but you have
to be particularly careful in doing business on the web -- there
are many scammers, who would like nothing better than to trick more
people out of their money.
This is of particular
concern in the field of audio production - specifically mastering.
Mastering is an important step in the final stages of production
- it's the "spit and polish" phase where your material
(voice or music) comes out clean and glossy. Unfortunately, it's
also a very misunderstood aspect of production that few people are
familiar with - making them easy targets for deceptive practices.
The mastering engineer
I deal with most often just outside of Chicago (John Scrip of Massive
Mastering {LINK: http://www.massivemastering.com}),
wrote an excellent article on some of the issues and things to watch
out for -- BUYER BEWARE. {LINK: http://www.massivemastering.com/html/buyer_beware.html}

Web
site Tips
Managing
your E-Mail Email
is supposed to be a time saver, but for many of us the shear volume
of message we receive each day has turned the management of our
email into a big job. On top of that, if something happens to our
saved emails we often lose valuable/important information. To that
end, I would like to point out a few good articles that can help
you take control of your email.
4 Ways to Take Control of Your E-mail Inbox
http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/manageinfo/email.mspx
In this article, Microsoft covers 4 key factors to effectively process
your email.
Spam Blocking
Current studies have shown that spam may account for as much as
90% of all email traffic. Almost all ISPs offer spam blocking software
as part of their email packages. In most cases the feature is disabled
or set to a very low setting. I would highly recommend you contact
your ISP and discuss with them how best to setup/configure spam
blocking. For those of you who's ISP do not provide spam blocking,
there is a good overview of several free/cheap solutions at http://netsecurity.about.com/od/emailspamblocking/a/aafreespam.htm.
Backing up Your Email
The following list of articles describe how to backup/restore email
for various email clients.
